Day 1: Travel from West Point
On Day 1, we left West Point at 7:30 AM on May 23. Following a ride to LaGuardia Airport (which was pleasantly renovated), we boarded our flight to Dallas and then to Oklahoma City. We arrived in Oklahoma around 4 PM, and then picked up our rental van. We attached the official West Point magnets to the van and christened it with an Abe Lincoln bobblehead, our mascot for the journey. The first official stop on our trip was Walmart: a necessary resupply for snacks and clothes. Then we began a 2 and 1/2 hour drive North to Wichita, Kansas. We ate dinner at Los Potros, a delicious local Mexican restaurant near the Kansas-Oklahoma border. As the sun set, we caught a glimpse of a beautiful cloud formation on the horizon that promised good observation in the future. Finally, we arrived in our Wichita hotel very tired after our first day, looking forward to a base visit tomorrow!
